U.S. Swine Flu Deaths: Barack Obama declares national emergency

We mentioned in an earlier post that President Barack Obama declared a national emergency in the U.S. on Sunday, this was in direct response to the news that the Swine Flu outbreak has now gotten much worse. Deaths from the virus has now reached 1,000 in the U.S. alone, it seems that the cases of swine flu have doubled in the past week.
Swine Flu has been spreading across the globe at an alarming rate, 46 of the 50 American states have now reported cases of Swine Flu, with reports of over 100 children dying from the virus. The White House does not wish anyone to start panicking; they have only declared this a national emergency so that medical officials are able to bypass certain federal regulations in case the virus gets much worse.
According to The Guardian, this is the same move that the White House makes just before a hurricane is about to hit any coastal areas. Obama’s declaration read, “As a nation, we have prepared at all levels of government, and as individuals and communities, taking unprecedented steps to counter the emerging pandemic.”
This move allows the normal red tape to be cut; making resources much easier to get to, it is hoped that this will be able to prevent a serious outbreak.
