Tunbridge Wells Project Nets Conservation Award For Sevenoaks House Builder

Sevenoaks-based house developer Regalpoint has won a conservation award for its restoration of a listed building in the heart of Tunbridge Wells.

In its annual Conservation and Community Awards, The Royal Tunbridge Wells Civic Society praised the company for its work on Clarence House in Church Road, which has seen a disused and run-down building restored to elegant residential accommodation.

Formerly known as the ‘Bank House’, the property is situated next to what used to be the Tunbridge Wells branch of the Beeching Bank, which was built in 1826. In 1874 the bank re-located to premises on Mount Pleasant Hill before being sold in 1890 to Lloyds.

Members of the prominent Tunbridge Wells family the Beechings owned and lived at Bank House and it is believed to have been in its current form since the mid-1800s. Since then the property has had a number of uses, but has now been fully refurbished and restored by developers Regalpoint.

The property has now been converted to form eight luxury flats with modern-style interiors and off-street parking. Out of the five 1 bedroom and three 2 bedroom apartments only the show home remains available, and is up for sale.

Regalpoint Managing Director Tony Porter said: “We are really pleased to have our work recognised by a group such as the Royal Tunbridge Wells Civic Society, which offers an independent view on all planning applications in the borough and has the best interests of the town as its ethos.

“At Clarence House we have worked very hard to return this listed building to its former glory and have retained many of the original features of the property including original cornices, shuttered windows, many original skirtings, architraves internal doors, and sliding sash windows.”

Anyone interested in viewing the show home of Clarence House should contact TW Flats 01892 530109. The two bedroom flat, which is fully furnished and includes carpets, curtains and light fittings, is being marketed for £235,000.
