Ever wondered how to match food and Kentish beer, discover the art of the chocolatier, cook a variety of game or even Kentish snails? If so, then a special three-day festival of food and drink, which is taking place in Canterbury in September is must not miss event, which promises a whole lot more besides.

Euro Fair with the Kent Food and Drink Festival will treat visitors to an array of food, drink and cookery demonstrations. There will also be opportunities to try and buy from a vast range of home grown and produced food and drink as well as delicacies from Europe.

The very best produce from across Kent and the Continent will be on display at the free festival, taking place at the Dane John Gardens from Friday, September 26, to Sunday, September 28, and is being run by the champions of food and drink in the county, Produced in Kent, in partnership with Canterbury City Council.

A series of demonstrations and talks will take place throughout the festival showing visitors how to use different produce. These will include cookery demonstrations using game, fish, and apples as well as wine tastings. Mark Rossi, the Executive Chef, at the Abode Hotel, Canterbury, will also be showing how to cook snails bred in Kent.

With the tougher economic climate hitting everyone in the pocket, there will also be a demonstration from campaigners Love Food Hate Waste on how to make the most of your ingredients.

The centerpiece of the festival will be a magnificent food market, featuring an extensive range of stalls many of them showcasing the goods of Produced in Kent members including game, seafood, beer, cider, cheese, meat as well as fresh fruit and vegetables.

Alongside the homegrown offerings will be a French market, produce from Certaldo, Italy, which has strong links to Canterbury, and other continental markets.

Produced in Kent Manager Julie Monkman said the festival was a great opportunity to fly the flag for Kent and the wide range of quality products grown and manufactured within the county

She said: “We are very fortunate to have some fabulous food and drink producers in the county, many of whom will be at the festival. I would urge anyone with an interest in food and importantly where it comes from, to get along to the festival, visit the stalls and demonstrations and enjoy the flavours and aromas of Kent.

“There will be something for everyone and it promises to be an, entertaining, educational and important event for the county. Supporting Kentish producers is not only good for our own well-being but also the local economy, the landscape and the environment.”

The food markets in the Dane John Gardens will be open from 10am to 5pm on Friday, and Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sunday. Live entertainment will also be available throughout the three-day event.

As well as the festival, visitors will be able to follow food trails through Canterbury, taking in a range of gastronomic delights on offer.
