Kent fire and rescue service have entered the Channel Tunnel to investigate a fire on a freight train in the Channel Tunnel. We are hearing this is due to a truck catching fire with chemicals on.
Current news is that 12 people are being treated for smoke inhalation, 50 people were evacuated, there are no passenger trains in the tunnel, and this operation was led by the French as it was 6.8 miles from the French entrance.
Rail service on the Channel Tunnel has been suspended and currently there is no evidence that this is terrorist related at all.
Operation Stack has now been put in place in Kent and miles of lorries are lining up, all the time these vehicles are being delayed companies are losing money. Currently there is no word on how long the tunnel will be closed. We will update you as we get more information.
Do you know anyone travelling on EuroTunnel today?
