Musical Trio Perform At Deal Festival

Three talented musicians from St Edmund’s School Canterbury performed a lunchtime recital as part of the Deal Festival of Music and the Arts.

Jacob Barnes (piano), John Mann (violin) and Hermione Jones (cello) performed to a packed and appreciative audience at Deal Town Hall on the penultimate day of the festival. The trio’s hour-long concert featured works by Mozart, Beethoven and Rachmaninov.

Founded more than 25 years ago, the Deal Festival of Music and the Arts brings together acclaimed individuals and ensembles from Kent and overseas. The programme is centred on Chamber Music but this year also included a wide range of styles from opera to street music.

Congratulating the trio on their performance at Deal, Jeremy Gladwin, Headmaster of St Edmund’s School Canterbury, said: “From an early age, our pupils are encouraged to take part in musical activities. In the Senior School, we typically present over 25 concerts a year, from small, lunchtime recitals to large gala concerts and an annual Jazz Bonanza as part of the Canterbury Festival.

“On leaving St Edmunds, the trio will further their careers at prestigious colleges. John Mann will be going to New College Oxford and both Hermione Jones and Jacob Barnes take up scholarships at the Royal Academy of Music in London.”
