It has been announced that Kent County Council have insisted that there will be no panic measures in place as it tries to cope with the economic downturn and rising prices which could cost them around £25million. It’s said that the credit crunch will put increasing pressure on their £1.5billion budget.
According to reports the soaring price of electricity will mean that KCC will have to find another £1m when a new contract for looking after 100,000 street lights is awarded later this year.
To help cushion the blow it’s said that KCC are going to use more than £5m of money not spent last year.
Cllr Nick Chard (Con) who is KCC’s cabinet member for finance, said that “the council was responding swiftly, but it was impossible to give categoric assurances that services would not be hit. He also warned the problems would continue for “years to come.”
County council leader Paul Carter (Con) said that “while action would be needed to bring costs down, KCC would “not go into panic mode”.
What do you make of all this?
Yes everything is going up and what I have noticed the most is fuel and food. Things need to be done and fast food can not keep going up people need to live and with wages staying the same what will happen in the long run?
