Today we are hearing about the aftermath of a Typhoon that hit the Philippines and has sunk a ferry that was believed to be carrying around 700 people, its being reported that only 3 people have been found so far. Much of the Philippines are deep in water and although they are used to having Typhoons, this one is partially bad.
The ferry was called “The Princess of the Star” and it capsized after being hit by massive waves because of typhoon Fengshen, the winds were reported to have hit anything up to 120mph. Although they have only found three people from the ferry, hopes of finding more are low because of the high winds and the fact that the ferry sunk more than a mile from shore.
The ferry numbers we have heard from Sky News are 121 crew and 626 passengers on board, this will result in a massive loss of life. We are also hearing that around another 80 people have died from the winds and rain in other parts of the Philippines.
Floodwaters have hit more than two metres high in places, landslides and flashfloods have ripped up power lines and trees in some areas, in archipelago more than 20,000 people were moved to evacuation centres.
Friends and family of those on the ferry have been crowding in offices of the ship’s owner, Sulpicio Lines and are trying to find out whatever information they can about their loved ones. We will update as we get more information about the Typhoon in the Philippines and the missing people from the ferry.
