tiger woods us open sudden death
This years US Open at Torrey Pines was the 14th major championship for Woods and it also ended up becoming his third US Open title on Monday. It was not an easy ride for Woods as he ended up playing a sudden death with Rocco Mediate on the 18-hole for a playoff.

Woods can also be proud in the fact that Monday marked another special day for him; he is now the first golfer in history to win seven tournaments on one golf course. The Championship could of easily gone to Mediate as he had a one-shot lead on the 18th hole, but the Tiger magic came out with Woods getting a birdie.

The sudden death rule was instituted in 1954 and this years US Open saw the third sudden death at the major. This type of playoff does not come about often and its not happened at the US Open since 1994. Mediate was going for a record of his own, if he had won then that would of made him the oldest U.S. Open champion at 46 and also the oldest first-time major winner in the history of golf.

Did you watch this years Open and if so what did you think of Mediate and Woods play this year?
