Tourism and art experts at KCC promote Kent’s coast, festivals, arts and music events

Tourism and art experts at Kent County Council (KCC) have joined forces to launch a campaign promoting Kent’s cultural coast and the growing number of festivals, arts and music events being staged in the county. With grant support from Arts Council England South East and KCC, leaflets promoting all the arts events to be discovered along the Kent coastline from Whitstable to Dungeness this season are being distributed throughout London. Details of the campaign are also featured on the Visit Kent website.

The campaign promotes Kent’s stunning coastline and its many natural attractions alongside cutting edge visual arts events and exhibitions including the Folkestone Triennial, Whitstable Biennale and Turner Contemporary.

The county’s music scene is brought into focus with the Margate Big Sky Jazz Festival, Broadstairs Folk Week, Whitstable Brewery Bar and the Deal Festival of music and arts.

Festivals of all kinds are celebrated including Lounge on the Farm, Whitstable Oyster Festival, Margate’s Open Sky Kite Festival and the Canterbury International Arts Festival.

Sally Staples, head of Kent Arts Development Unit , said: “Launching this campaign, which is part funded by Arts Council England South East, focuses on the coastal towns of Kent attracting and harnessing the energies of creative people, businesses and visitors.

“We have worked with a range of cultural stakeholders including the Creative Foundation, Turner Contemporary as well as students from the University of Creative Arts to develop new networks to underpin this campaign and ongoing support for the arts in Kent.

Fran Warrington, head of Visit Kent at KCC, added: “Kent is now an increasingly important destination nationally and internationally for the arts and cultural tourism. Working with our colleagues in Kent Arts Development Unit, we have produced information specifically designed to meet the needs of this audience.

“This is an ideal opportunity to make new visitors aware of all the new high quality cultural events being staged in Kent as well as our heritage and the vast range of new experiences to be enjoyed in our towns and villages along the coast.”

This is the first of a series of themed marketing campaigns specifically aimed at attracting new visitors and audiences by raising awareness of Kent’s coast and re-positioning the coastline as a destination of choice.
