It has been announced that all drivers who are involved in crashes are to take a breath-tested by Kent Police in a crackdown on drinking and driving. Kent Police said that a total of 250 people were arrested each month for drinking and driving on the county’s roads. Paul Sellwood, from the serious collision investigation unit, said the problem “continues to be a menace. He said that “We don’t want to stop people from enjoying a work lunch or night out. But we want people to do it safely and responsibly. That means staying sober and alert.”
It’s said that one in six of all deaths on the county’s roads are linked to motorists driving under the influence of drink or drugs. Motorists caught driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs will be given a mandatory ban, a fine up to £5,000 or a possible prison sentence.
It’s also said that those found not wearing seatbelts will be issued with a fixed penalty notice of £30 and drivers using a hand-held mobile will be subject to a £60 fine plus three penalty points on their licence.
