Students applying for a University Place will have to sit an entrance exam
It has been announced that all students who are applying to a leading university will have to sit an entrance exam because A-levels are too easy. The Imperial College in London will require all sixth-formers to take an aptitude test to select the best candidates from the record number of pupils leaving school and college with straight As.

Sir Richard Sykes who is the university’s rector said that year-on-year grade inflation had “destroyed” its ability to discriminate between bright and average applicants.

It’s said that this is the first university entrance test to be introduced since Oxford and Cambridge scrapped exams for applicants in the mid-90s. Sir Richard insisted other universities were considering copying the move.

Speaking at the Independent Schools Council annual conference in London, Sir Richard said the qualification had become “almost worthless” he said that “We can’t rely on A-levels any more,” he said. “Everybody who applies has got three as or four as – they are not very useful.”

Do you agree with this move?
