May 31st, 2008 · No Comments · Email This

For those of you that want the major Comcast Hack explained, then let us tell you a few details about what happened and why millions were unable to access their Webmail and email. The Comcast web mail portal had been hijacked and all traffic was being rerouted for more than five hours.

This hack was said to be the work of a group called Kryogeniks, somehow this group managed to modify the authoritative DNS servers for Comcast and this change of registrars at Network Solutions enabled the hackers to send visitors to foreign IP addresses.

When Comcast users tried to access their email, they were not able to and also got a text message saying “KRYOGENIKS Defiant and EBK RoXed COMCAST sHouTz To VIRUS Warlock elul21 coll1er seven.”

So why do these hackers do what they do? This could be for money gain, but most times it’s said to be for the achievement of being able to hack, it gives them a buzz. Although most of the services offered by Comcast are back to normal, we are still hearing that this hack has still left some users without access to Webmail.

The Big question customers want to know is about their personal security, did Comcast users get their private email sent to the wrong hands? We are hearing that Comcast is talking to law enforcement agencies to find out if this is the case.

How were you affected by this major attack on Comcast and do you think you received any malicious software from the hackers after being redirected?
