Suspect Package Brought Chaos to Canterbury
An investigation has been launched after a suspect package brought road closures and chaos to Canterbury in Kent yesterday. The roads in the Wincheap area were closed when the suspect package was found on the Esso garage forecourt at 3.18pm. It was declared safe by Army bomb disposal experts and roads re-opened at 5.15pm.

Supt Chris Hogben who is the Deputy area commander said that “We are not linking this incident with the one at Kent University. Officers are continuing their investigation. We are grateful to those who alerted the garage staff and urge people to go about their daily lives but remain vigilant and always report anything suspicious.”

On Tuesday the Templeman Library at the Kent University was evacuated when a suspect package was found. It was detonated in a controlled explosion by bomb disposal experts and turned out to be a bag of students’ books.

The Lorry driver who spotted that package on the forecourt said that “It was about the size of a mobile phone but wrapped in brown parcel tape and had wires sticking out of it and a little red flashing light. I thought, ‘that doesn’t look right’ and alerted the garage owner.”

Do you think that Canterbury could be at risk?
