Today at 8:06 am the first 911 call was received by the Manhattan Fire Department about a crane collapse in New York City on East 91st Street, it was said to be on the Upper East Side. The crane collapsed onto a high-rise apartment building and when units arrived at the scene they found the wreckage, two people were pulled out but it was not known if they were pedestrians or workers.
When the crane came down it teared off balconies and left the area below a complete mess, it must have been a frightening sight for people passing by. This is the second Manhattan crane collapse in two months, the odds of one is bad enough.
Currently all we know so far is one person has died and that’s said to be the operator of the crane’s cab. It’s not immediately known how the other person/s pulled from the wreckage are. This crane was apparently being used at 354 East 91st Street for a construction project, when it collapsed it smashed through a building’s top floor on the southwest corner of 91st Street and First Avenue. The damage continued down to the second floor from a building that is 20 stories up, the police acted fast by closing both ends of the street at the intersection and allowing fire trucks and ambulances to do their job.
Feel free to leave your comments if you were in the area and let us know what you have seen.
