On Tuesday onlookers saw Thorpe Park turn into a scream park as a 4ft piece of metal flew off a ride and plunged towards families below. It’s said that terrified mums, dads and kids on half term ran for it as it dropped 100 feet. The metal smashed into a fence and landed on a path between two rides and no one was hit.
The metal fell off the Rush ride which can be seen above and is a very popular Thorpe Park ride.
One Onlooker Phil Jones managed to capture the drama on his phone’s camera. He said that “It was a mean piece of metal that could have decapitated someone.” You can see the video by clicking the link below.
The Rush ride was built in 2005 but was closed immediately after Tuesday’s incident. A park spokesman said that “All guests safely disembarked. We are investigating.” Two other key rides, Slammer and Stealth, were also out of order the same day.
Were you there?
You can see the Video clip here of the metal falling from the ride

Hi guys… We think that this is a tragic time in the history of engineering, it could have had much worse consequences and are forever greatful that it didnt take anyones precious life.
Thank The Lord.
God Bless You All.

alex…. well surely you would know that it would not happen twice.
much much more of a possibility of it happening on another ride at thorpe park rather than it being rush again
believe me that ride would be made even more safer now so enjoy it =)

Stephen - don’t be so sure. I was on a ride in America once, and the cart thing got to the top of this really steep section, then rather than go back down the way it came at a steady speed, fell straight down the steep bit! Needless to say, I wasn’t the only one on the cart literally screaming for my life. Every day i thank the lord Jesus Christ that there was a long patch of water at the bottom, presumably due to recent heavy rainfall. Shockingly, I’ve heard that this has STILL not been fixed, years later.
Amazing.
