A new police station has just opened in north Kent and is said to have cost of £30m to build. The new building is based at Thamesway which is near Northfleet this means that the Dartford and Gravesend stations will be closed. Is this a good move?
The new station features a 40-cell custody suite, a vulnerable witness interview room, and a garage where cars can be tested by forensic scientists. The station is said to have been built using the private finance initiative and is heated by a geothermal system which reuses rainwater.
Mark Gilmartin, of Kent Police Authority, said that “The old police stations were no longer fit for purpose and now we have an environmentally friendly station with fantastic equipment.”
What do you think of the move?
