Yesterday Chelsea skipper John Terry punched the air and raced over to embrace his mate David Beckham and yes there were tears in his eyes again but this time for the right reasons. When Chelsea played in Russia it was John Terry who missed the shootout kick which would have won his team the Champions League so questions were asked about his state of mind and whether he would be in any condition to play this game but despite what happened he played and played well.
John Terry scored to help lead England to victory He said that “I’m a big man, I like the big games and it was great to score. It was a great boost for me. It was a relief really to have the England game with the USA rather than the whole summer to dwell on what happened in Moscow.”
Terry’s display earned rich praise from England manager Fabio Capello who is auditioning for his permanent captain for the World Cup qualifying campaign.
David Beckham was presented with a golden cap by Sir Bobby Charlton before kick-off, marking 100 appearances for his country. Well done David. He was surprisingly given the nod to start against his adopted country and was determined to go on and on and was hugely involved in England’s first-half.
US coach Bob Bradley said: “Everyone in the soccer world recognises the talent England possesses. They raised the bar against us and we learned how far we still have to go. Players like Steven Gerrard and Wayne Rooney are examples of what we’re looking for from our players.”
What did you think of the game?
