Competitors will train in Medway ahead of London 2012 Olympic Games
Competitors for the London 2012 Olympic Games will carry out last-minute training at the state-of-the-art Medway Park sports facility that is set to be built on the site of the Black Lion Leisure Centre in Gillingham.

The redeveloped complex is set for an £11 million cash injection and has been listed for eight Paralympic sports in the official training camp guide that is being unveiled during the Beijing Games in September. Medway Park has already been included in the official pre-2012 Olympic training camp guide for 13 different events. This means that it will be the seventh biggest approved multi-sport facility in the country.

Howard Doe who is the council’s community services chief said that “This is great news for Medway and for the council’s mission to make the most of the 2012 Games in London. The approval from the organising committee indicates that we are well on the way to creating the high-class sporting facilities the people of Medway deserve.”

Medway Park will act as the pre-Games training camp for paralympians competing in athletics, boccia, goalball, judo, volleyball and wheelchair basketball, fencing and rugby.
