Fuel protests by Lorry Drivers will cause delays
Tomorrow motorists across the country could face major delays when lorry drivers pour into London to demonstrate against soaring fuel costs. It’s said that hundreds of Lorry Drivers are expected to take part in the convoy which will be led by drivers from Kent and will converge at Marble Arch.

It’s reported that part of the London-bound A40 will be closed from around 10am to 3pm BST so that the protestors can park their Lorries. The westbound carriageway will remain open. The organisers have said that they want HGV drivers to be allowed to claim back some fuel duty; this follows a similar convoy that took place last month which saw 65 Lorries make their way up the M2 motorway in Kent and into London.

Organisers have said that the fuel for a typical articulated lorry now cost up to £1,000 per week. I have noticed that the fuel has gone up a lot in the last week and I have a car so how the companies that have these big Lorries are coping I don’t know. Could the rise in fuel prices be the start of loss of jobs?

Mike Presneill, who has helped organise the protest, said that “Foreign haulers are entering the UK with cheaper fuel purchased abroad. They contribute nothing to our economy. We are paying the highest rate of fuel duty in the UK. All we are asking for is that the Government introduce an essential user rebate so that we can compete on a level playing field with continental haulers.”

This is very true. What do you think?
