Kent International Airport at Manston gets Huge survey response
A questionnaire that has been run to find out what the public would like to see in the future at the Kent International Airport at Manston has had a massive response It’s said that just a week after its launch the survey received over 1,800 responses, with the majority of responses positive.

Matt Clarke who is the chief executive of Kent International Airport, said that ‘The survey will provide us with useful evidence of what Kent residents feel is important when considering their choice of airport and a snapshot of which routes they currently fly or may want to use in the future. This will help us to best serve the county when talking to prospective airlines.’

I know a few members of my family have travelled from Manston and are going to travel again from there in the summer and they don’t seem to have had any problems with flying from there but me I am still unsure as it is not an established airport like Gatwick silly I know but that will properly change in time.

Another thing that I noticed about Manston the other day is when I was looking to go abroad this summer the holidays they do from there do not cater for families with kids this is also why I would travel from Gatwick and not Manston at the moment.

What are your opinions?

I would be happy to fly from Manston as it is much faster (live in Broadstairs), but as the author said, they need to offer more places that have clubs for kids, etc.

No doubt the travellers of Kent would love flights from a local airport; but are they volunteering to pay high fares, or do they expect their holidays to be subsidised by taxpayers?

EUJet couldn’t even stay afloat when given subsidies from local government, and cheap deals by the airport owner. It’s unlikely that KCC would be daft enough to subsidise another attempt - though they did waste £50000 of taxpayers money to learn that flights to the USA weren’t viable (which airlines already knew; it’s not a matter for local government).

I wouldn’t rule out the possibility of local government throwing more good money after bad, but as a taxpayer I hope it won’t happen.
