Mote Park Music Festival in Maidstone: Madonna & Fatboy Slim

May 15th, 2008 · 2 Comments · Email This

Last weekend was the massive Mote Park Music Festival in Maidstone and its said to be the “UK’s biggest free music festival”, and for a free event, the two-day festival featured more than 50 top music acts and lived up to that name. These music artists included the massive names of Madonna and Fatboy Slim, Maidstone was very happy to host Radio 1’s Big Weekend but Norwich was not so happy in narrowly missing out on hosting it.

The shortlist of three Towns to host the event included Southampton, Norwich and of course Maidstone. Norwich city leaders said they will “do all they can” to bring the event to them next time. Other acts at the free music festival included The Editors, The Kooks and The Fratellis, with Madonna being the biggest celebrity attending. In 2006 and 2007 the event was hosted in Dundee and Preston, these areas have had an increase in tourism since hosting the festival and its being reported that Maidstone’s economy will also have long-term affects from just this two-day music festival. Hotels are booked up for months to come and because Maidstone was featured on Television, it will make many more people in the UK aware of how nice Maidstone is.

Did you go to the Mote Park Music Festival and if so, what did you think?

Its great that Madonna lives in the UK, lets hope this means that the UK gets a lot more of the queen of POP.

Radio 1’s Big Weekend needs to come to Norwich next time, lets hope it happens as we could do with the money being spent in this area.
