The £53m Securitas Kent robbery has left detectives looking for more people who were involved and now detectives have visited Cyprus. Police officers in Kent have said that some officers have travelled to the Turkish side of the island but have returned now.
Just a recap, back in January five men were sent to prison at the Old Bailey on kidnap, robbery and firearm charges in relation to the Securitas robbery in Tonbridge which happened in February 2006. Whilst the trial was going on the Northern Cyprus government offered to help the British police who were investigating this crime. The Turkish of Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) on the other hand is not formally recognised by the UK and has no extradition treaty.
Kent police are still looking into a few more things to do with the inquiry in connection with this robbery, police have not confirmed if the trip to Cyprus also included the search for the money which is still missing, and they have not located it yet. Five men back in May as it was revealed were jailed over the raid and could face very long sentences of they do not tell the police where the money is. £21 million of the £53 million taken for the depot has been found and the Crown Prosecution Service has indeed applied for an order under the Proceeds of Crime Act.
The men in the robbery are Lea Rusha, Stuart Royle, Roger Coutts; Jetmir Bucpapa who was given indeterminate prison sentences with a minimum of 15 years at the Old Bailey whereas Emir Hysenaj was jailed for 20 years to serve a minimum of 10 years.
